Licensing and Installation
Licensing and Installation
Overview
This chapter contains instructions for installing DAI Comparescan and setting up the license manager.
What You Need
You will need the following:
- Product floppy disks, product tapes, tar file from ftp, or the e-mail parts
- 1. If you obtained the product floppy disks or the product tapes, the instructions for how to extract the distribution files are listed on the label of the media. There should be a compressed tar file and an installation script.
- 2. If you obtained the e-mail parts, type the following command to extract the installation script from the first part.
% uudecode ./comparescan.part.00
- 1. For SunOS and Solaris, you should reserve at least 10 megabytes of free disk space each.
- 2. For SGI and HP, you should reserve at least 15 megabytes of free disk space each.
- 3. For AIX, you should reserve at least 20 megabytes of free disk space.
- The activation key from Design Acceleration
- 1. Call Design Acceleration at 408-559-8500
- 2. Email to sales@designacc.com
Installing the Product
- Become root if possible so that you can install the files in the default directories.
% su root
- In the directory where you put your distribution files, run dai-install.
% ./dai-install
- It prompts you with a series of questions. By default, the DAI Comparescan executable is installed in /usr/local/bin, and all other files, including documentation and the license manager daemon, are installed in /usr/local/lib/designacc. In both cases, you may choose different directories. All questions have default answers displayed in square brackets. Press Return to accept the default answer for any question.
- If you cannot become root, then you will need to install the product in a directory where you have write permissions, rather than in the default directories.
Installing the License
DAI Comparescan uses the Elan License Manager from the Elan Computer Group. The installation script prompts you if you want to install the activation key and start the license daemon. If you skipped those steps when you ran dai-install, you can still do them with the following commands.
- 1. To install the activation key, go to the directory where you installed the license manager executables and run da_enterkey.
% ./da_enterkey
- 2. To install the license daemon, go to the directory where you installed the license manager executables and run da_elmd.
% ./da_elmd
- 3. To verify that you have successfully installed the activation key and the license manager and check on licenses, run da_elmadmin.
% ./da_elmadmin -l

Installing The PLI Routines
In order to use advanced features such as viewing Sequence Time and logic strength information, tracing back a variable, and running an interactive simulation, you need to link the DAI PLI routines into your simulator. Please refer to Chapter XXX, "Interfacing Comparescan to Your Verilog Simulator" for more detail.
